Sambalpuri-speaking people and those interested in their culture came together to celebrate the occasion. They wore Sambalpuri outfits, had Sambalpuri food and danced to Sambalpuri songs. They also enjoyed Nuakhai special food like karadi ambila, hendua, simbarai, dahi ambila, saagabadi, rasabara and many more. Susmita and Ashok Panigrahi from Connecticut sang the Sambalpuri translation of popular Odia song, Ae Banara Chhai, Bijay Satpathy sang Dhol Pare Pare Baja Bajnia, Manaswini performed a Sambalpuri dance and Pritish Shaw, a captain in the US army, anchored the event. This festival was first organised by a family and their friends in 2018 and this year, over 40 families living in and around Loudoun county and their relatives from Connecticut and New Jersey took part in this annual festival.
